Creators without Compromise: Dana Al Mazrouei

In the beginning…

“We launched in 2011 – ‘The T-Junction’ consists of a unique t-shirt concept that introduces the Middle Eastern culture through modern content. The T-Junction started when my sister, Hassa Al Mazrouei, was inspired by the cultural artwork in the region, she thought it was a shame that not a lot of people in the region were interested in art as much as fashion.  Hassa influenced me and it was a natural progression as I’m an artist and designer by profession. The T- Junction represents a junction where we (the two sisters) meet to form a T (for t-shirts).  We have three lines “UAE”, “Charity” and “ Art”. In addition to that, we’ve created customized jerseys for various teams and bands.”

Design Pillars…

“In our designs we mix an aesthetic of heritage with modernity. We our also inspired by our love for the UAE, community service and collaboration works of art with local artists and designers”

And Dana tells us further about the lines which are currently on offer “UAE Vintage: The concept of this line is to bring back child hood memories to the kids that grew up during the 80’s in the UAE. The Love of UAE: This line is a reflection of the modern influence on our culture, society and revival of lost traditions and quotes, all put in a modern content. Charity: This is a seasonable line, which is dedicated to various charity foundations depending on the charity event happening each month of year. And last but not least is, Art: This line is dedicated to all artists, in which The T-junction is happy to host an artist for every season. “

Fashion Sense…

“The young fashion scene is growing, and in terms of our t-shirt line -  it’s the young(er) generation, who usually seek casual wear, are still interested in the ‘content’ of the t-shirt [e.g. kids of the 80’s, art collaborations or on the other hand interested in traditional quotes that have been modernized in a new context.”
