Cairokee - Matlob Za3em

The new album from Cairo-based alternative fusion rockers Cairokee is subtle in sound yet entirely revolutionary in heart. These eight songs all reflect the impact of a youthful revolution on the musical stylings of Cairokee. Read below for triplew.me’s review of Matlob Za3em…

Matlob Za3em (which directly translates to A Leader is Needed) is a collection of songs which, from a lyrical point of view, are greatly influenced by the Egyptian revolution and its consequences.

Musically – Cairokee’s sound is a blend of easy-going alternative rock with hints of traditional Arabic/Egyptian music. Their signature style of playing a type of westernized music against a very regional context might seem overdone, but the way the band pulls it off is both ambitious and professional.

The title track is a sing-a-long type of song with deeply politically chants sung in an intimate style. The album is interlaced throughout its thirty five minutes with soundbytes relating to the recent Egyptian revolution.

Highlights on “Matlob Za3em” include the fusion-istic “Masrway” – a track that heavily borrows from traditional music in sound and phrases, but still retain that rock-edge. Another highlight is the light blues-y rocker “El Wad Beta3 El Mazica” – the song exhibits the band’s level of comfort with different musical styles and is a testament to their robust talent.

Matlob Za3em” might not be groundbreaking or inventive – but what it is for sure is sincere, well-done, inspiring and beautifully relevant.

Music of the revolution by one of Cairo's top Rock bands. Cairokee's talent is evident across their usage of different musical styles - from alternative rock to blues-based to fusion - the band moves with ease between these changes to produce a sequence of beautiful revolutionary songs.

What I love about their music is that it's so sincere, their lyrics are truly from the heart, very touching, they are very artistic and talented and their music is the kind of music that grows on you, you have to listen to them several times to understand it and then you're hooked. I wish them the best of luck, they deserve it :)

I honestly expected a much worse record. The quality is good and the music is cheerful.
It gets repetitive at times but for the Pop-Rock genre this is not bad at all.
My only dislike is the sudden change of direction between the pre and post revolution Cairokee.

I'm their biggest fan

Cairokee is undoubtedly the best Egyptian Musicians this year. Especially after the revolution for that they were given all the power to produce whatever they want, there is no limiting to the lyrics or the subjects they want to discuss through their songs and so on.
on the musical side of Album Matlob Za3eem, one can easily feel the very nice professional teamwork between them.
And here's some personal comments about some songs off the Album:
(1)Sout Al Hoorya ( without a doubt is best song of the revolution)

(2)Matlob Za3eem (If you are looking for best descriptions to a good leader, stop reading books and watching TV shows, and JUST Listen to this song! Great writing, arranging, and absolutely awesome rocking music work)

(3) Ye3ady al seif & Helmy Ana & 3'aeeeb fe belad 3'areba ( Shows how much the real good music was limited in Egypt before the revolution. creative people were not given the opprtunity to give such work to the light, I guess the regime limited the music to be only about love and such , as long as you will not come near politics)

(4) Masrawy ( when the western music meets the eastern music and nicely goes through one tube)

(5) El wad beta3 el Mazika (Blues shifted into an Egyptian daily life)

(6) Efred Gena7ak (OPTIMISM is here!!)

And now I think I've finished my article , AND waiting for more Albums by Cairokee !!!
