With their sophomore effort, The Morning Benders continue to craft pop tunes with melodies so catchy you can’t help but sing along to.
The harmonies and the jangles are on point, this might be easily dismissed as feeling like a record for the summer, but with multiple listens the real gems of the record start to shine. How to sum it up:it’s sweet, it’s youthful, it’s playful, it’s carefree, it’s introspective without getting too serious, it’s even grand at some point – but what it isn’t, is feeble. Big Echo takes a meandering journey from the opening waltz-y sound of 'Excuses' ushering the listener to what may seem like the musical equivalent of a soap opera (not in a bad sense), while****ng in so many influences from the usual suspects like The Beatles/The Beach Boys, to a diluted dose of progressive rock on the track 'Stitches'.
The lyrical content bounces between songs of love found and love lost – or the pining for yesteryear in the oddly cheerful melancholic tune 'Promises' – The Morning Benders even attempt to rock out on “All Day Day Light”, but if rocking out was ever meant to be done with a lot of charm then they’ve nailed it. Big Echo might seem harmless at first listen, but it’s an actual decent record with some really impressive tracks from a very promising band.
