The Kooks - Junk of the Heart

The latest studio release from Lebanese rock band Meen offers eleven original songs signified by their unique and humorous style. Read below for triplew.me’s review of 3arouset Bkeseen.

Meen’s take on rock music is very theatrical and comical – but their musical proficiency and depth guarantee that they offset their sarcastic take on social commentary with some very infectious tunes.

The album opens with “Cliché” - a slow sing-a-long, acoustic-guitar driven ballad about the lack of originality on today’s music scene.

Fouad and Toni Yammine – the founders of Meen and the band’s main creative vehicle – draw inspiration for the album from a spectrum of genres (classic rock, jazz, alternative rock). The duo manages to blend in these influences to come up with a concoction that displays a fresh take on the concept of “Arabic Rock”.

The band’s strongest selling point is their creative use of lyrics – where they highlight specifically Lebanese/local topics on a very accessible (music) backdrop. From songs that mock famous Arabic commercials (“Wa2fe M3 Il I3lan”) to songs which make light of a stereotypical ‘Macho’ man (“Jagal”).

3arouset Bkeseen provides the perfect combination of humor, nostalgia, wit, charm and musical craftsmanship.

A charming album from 'Arabic Rock' aficionados Meen. Songs inspired by a mixture of jazz and classic rock make the perfect sound for the band's down-to-earth style.
