Steel Train - Steel Train

The five-piece indie rock band from New Jersey is back with their self-titled third, and possibly their best, album.

Independently produced (after parting ways with former label Drive Thru), the record is basically a collection of insanely catchy anthems which on its own is a great feat – but enforced with the fact the quality of said anthems is quite impressive – this balance produces an astonishing mix. Opening with one of their best tracks to date “Bullet” – the quintet are keen on showing their true colors with this impeccable pop song fully equipped with a soaring chorus which you can’t help but sing along to.

The album goes on to incorporate the different influences on the band, from the 70’s rock epic sound, indie-rock tendencies to the arena-rock sensibilities. These songs are heavily influenced by their youth and that's evident on tracks such as “Turnpike Ghost” and “S.O.G Burning in Hell” – this sense of youth helps make the record float without being tied down to a heavy conceptualized idea.

And perhaps that's the most telling thing about Jack Antonoff’s talent (main songwriter), knowing exactly what works for Steel Train and avoiding any unnecessary distractions – and by doing just that, almost every aspect of this record makes perfect sense.

Certainly the most well-crafted Steel Train album to date - well-rounded and expertly put together, get in to it. It might be hard to get a physical copy in the middle east, so order from amazon.com in the meantime.
