The Tallest Man on Earth - Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird

Kristian Matsson, otherwise known as The Tallest Man on Earth, and just a few months after the release of his superb record “The Wild Hunt”; returns with another dose of his simple folk-y music – and it’s an absolute delight.

Just a little under 18 minutes and over the span of five tracks, Matsson takes us on a journey through his storytelling ways – from the first notes of opener “Little River” we are swept away in an intricately simple composition which resonates with a quality both tender and nostalgic. That quality carries out through the EP, but it never gets too sappy, staying rather charming, largely thanks to Matsson’s unique singing voice and his down-to-earth approach.

On “The Dreamer” an electric guitar replaces the acoustic one, creating a different feel which makes it stand out, but it still flows with the rest of the tracks – thanks to its bittersweet youthfulness.

The EP doesn't give away too much of what Matsson is capable of, but it's a more than adequate introduction to his music (or an addition to those familiar with him). He is probably the kind of singer/songwriter that gets labelled Dylan-esque most of the time – and even though that's more than flattering, it's actually worth taking a look beyond the comparisons and giving this material unbiased attention, because, well, it's really good!

The five songs on this EP are solid enough to generate an interest in Matsson's music, in addition to it being an impressive (and lovely) feat to release this EP some mere months after his acclaimed sophomore album.
