Mice Parade - What It Means to be Left Handed

Let us preface this review by saying that this is an absolutely gorgeous record – a point which comes across perfectly once you start listening to it. There's almost a perfect balance between a variety of elements.

From sweet indie pop vocal stylings of a male/female dynamic, intricate percussion work, a slight world-music quality to a polished sense of delicate rock music tendencies, an electronic disposition and complex compositions, all of which luckily never get overbearing but always maintain a breezy attitude.

What It Means to be Left Handed is Mice Parade’s eighth studio album - an experimental post-rock project led by percussionist Adam Pierce. The opening track “Kupanda” is an upbeat, happy go lucky number with the conventional Mice Parade dazzling percussion signature work.

The mood changes back and forth throughout the album – with some more traditionally inclined rock moments such as on the track “Mallo Cup” and the more chilly, distorted “Tokyo Late Night” both songs which may seem a little out of context, but the general ambiance always stays unified through the tender mood.

There are some ethereal electronic pieces, or rather interludes, which tie the album together nicely (“Pond”, “Remember the Magic Carpet”). The production is so layered which requires multiple listens in order to absorb everything – and that's what makes this record so lush.
