Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History

It costs a considerable amount of Euros to launch distribute and promote an album – so hearty praise goes to French fashion and record label Kitsune for releasing this one; twice in the same year!!

First released in March 2010, then again in October as a deluxe package, the label clearly thought they were on to a “winner” with Tourist History, and triplew.me agrees wholeheartedly.

Every debut album would struggle to avoid the mandatory sound-alike comparison treatment… so - throw a bit of Vampire Weekend, Keane, Friendly Fires and 1 fluffy white rabbit into a large top-hat and what pops out… magic!!

“Pop” this album does, with pretty melodic hooks throughout, sweet yet weighty choirboy-esqe vocals, and a sizable hat-load of musical abracadabra (but not the largely awful Steve Miller Band tune - ed.).

Two Door Cinema Club (TDCC) are an extremely well programmed drum machine, plus Alex Trimble, Kevin Baird and Sam Halliday; 3 lads from Northern Ireland who really know how to pen anthemic crowd pleasing electro-pop tunes. What is most appetizing about TDCC is not only do they belt out a smorgasbord of pogo stick jump around anthems, but they can actually really play - with cleverly quick guitar rhythms that almost sound like they would be near impossible to play live. Punch in Two Door Cinema Club Live into Youtube and witness for yourself. We’re impressed.

After gaining some further popularity live on the summer festival circuit, the label has seen an opportunity and put a 'deluxe' version out - which gives us a great excuse to review this album from earlier in the year. Pop genius, and unashamed-guilty-pleasure-listening-with-indie-cred, this is a great listen and deserved of a second spin.
