Lazzy Lung - Strange Places

Lazzy Lung is an alternative-rock quartet based in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The band started out as a solo project (of vocalist/guitarist Alan Charroui) between Canada and Lebanon, before deciding to go all out with a bigger sound on his/their debut release - Strange Places.

The album starts with "8 Hours to Get Home" an ode to the 9-5 working day - which serves as a fantastic opening track to the record, as it builds up from quiet to rocky with pretty awesome drumming throughout.

Other highlights signify the balance between musical indulgence (such as on the prog-rock inspired “Onstandby”) and a more straightforward pop-oriented approach (the more laid-back, groovy “Ridin”). The record tells personal tales inspired by the journey of a 20-something year old between different countries and the various experiences he’s faced.

It’s quite obvious that group is influenced by a mixture of genres/bands – ranging from alternative-rock a la Incubus, indie rock tendencies to some old school lashes of punk a la The Ramones with a bit of Foo Fighters arena rock. But beyond all of that, they manage to come up with a sound (both layered yet accessible) that is specifically their own – and that, at the end of the day, is what makes for a great record.

A well produced, well written debut album from these Lebanese alt-rockers. An excellent introduction to a band with many influences but a distinct sound.
