Foals - Total Life Forever

It was always going to be a tough ask matching the high expectations for these indie flag bearers.

However with this highly anticipated effort, Foals manage to overcome the dreaded second album syndrome to deliver a solid follow-up to their acclaimed debut.

‘Total Life Forever’ is well-crafted, soulful indie that almost lives up to the considerable hype. The outright swagger of early tracks such as ‘Miami’ builds to a crescendo midway through with the sprawling epic ‘Spanish Sahara’, then plateaus into the sweet lull of ‘Orient Feeling’.

Although the musical and lyrical meandering may wear thin at times, the Foals’ knack for crafty pop meshed with luscious soundscapes cannot be denied.

A solid follow-up to Antidotes, the album is well placed as a perfect follow up, but does not take the ground they broke on the first album any further, instead creating a wonderfully listenable album, but you get left with the feeling something more was in the tank....
