The Dead Weather - Sea of Cowards

The ever-prolific Jack White returns with another offering at the altar of sludgy blues and sleaze-riddled rock n' roll.

Whilst Messr White appears no closer to returning to the revered White Stripes which forged his name, this addition to his prolific output should help keep the masses satisfied during the hiatus.

Although subsequent projects The Raconteurs and now The Dead Weather have oft been accused of diluting the White Stripes' formula of ultra raw, blues-driven rock, 'Sea Of Cowards' offers enough evidence to suggest otherwise. A sinister, sleazy tone permeates throughout the eleven tracks, exemplified by the brooding synth-lead 'The Difference Between Us'. Elsewhere however, 'Hustle & Cuss' and 'Die By the Drop' feature shuddering grooves and searing twin vocals from Jack White and Allison Mosshart. However it is perhaps 'Gasoline' which best sums up this latest effort: a sultry swagger of outrageous confidence from a group that is not afraid to strut it's stuff.
