Sandmoon - raW

Indie pop trio Sandmoon – based between Lebanon and Belgium – is a charming lo-fi indie folk and pop ensemble creating music both dreamy and layered in a style that evokes simplicity and beauty.

raW is their debut album and is an adequate effort which combines different elements so effortlessly – lead by vocalist and pianist Sandra Arslanian – her vocals are the focal point of the record, which has every other element revolving around it in a supporting manner – that is not to say that everything else fades in the background but rather amplifies the impact of the vocals.

The album consists of eleven songs which range between twee-pop and more rhythmic stuff – which in a nutshell what Sandmoon is about (or is trying to come across as, anyway). Album opener Hide Away is a lovely, nostalgic track bursting with warmth – which is something that we find relevant and consistent across the record. Single Sheherazade is a breezy, Beth Orton-esque number which evokes subtleness coupled with effective bursts of melody.

raW is a wonderful introduction to a sound seldom heard by regional artists – and for all of its beauty, sincerity and rawness we welcome that with open arms.

Staying true to its title, the first album from Lebanese indie trio Sandmoon is gorgeous, folky and earthy. The vocals work really well with such an atmospheric vibe.
