Behold the Locus - Behold the Locus EP

Behold the Locus is a Dubai-based band - or a collective of Dubai-based musicians as they refer to themselves. Read below for triplew.me's review of their EP...

Opener 'Run' is a sing-a-long type of pop-rock anthem which starts out with a significant bassline – adding a bit of a funky vibe to the song. The song may be utterly radio-friendly but an interesting progression takes place by the end of it – with a bit of prog-rock like improvisation, elevating the song to a new sphere.

'Ladder' is a tender alternative rock ballad – with a bit of a folk twang – think Train. It also has that great weather sing-a-long feel, perfect for driving with your windows down. 'Lil Miss Sunshine' follows, a much groovier song than the previous two, but still retains that signature melody and catchiness which Behold the Locus seems to do so well.

Matters slow down with 'Unchanged' – a super accessible love ballad. The song contains some cool harmonies which, unfortunately, do not extend throughout the track – but regardless, the showy lead vocals at the end make up for it.

The last track on the ep is 'Super Girl' - which takes a different route when compared with the previous tracks, with its dark and mysterious vibe, but still retains that cool and funky sound.

All in all, Behold the Locus shows a good amount of variety in the bands abilities and aspirations, but they particularly excel when doing that brand of dark and groovy songs (example 'Super Girl').

A good effort from the quintet - highlighted by its sing a long, summer-y vibe - and heavily influenced by 90's pop rock.
