One of Cairo’s prog-rock leading lights, SimpleXity, have released their EP ‘Click To Start’ concept album, pulling off a remarkable record in a difficult genre to do so. Read our review below and leave your own.
First coming to our attention last year as part of the Makshoof Music platform, SimpleXity have continually impressed with their commitment to furthering their music. This release, a 5-track EP designed as a gapless concept album, takes their brand of progressive rock to the next level.
Full of tempo changes and twists and turns, the opening track A Lone Wolf’s Dying Will is a track that may be familiar to fans (via YouTube), but manages to surprise with its changes, while the following track Thin Air is more dreamy and atmospheric.
A Complex Outcome: Diaries From Turah opens riff-heavy and stays that way and is followed by the instrumental A Complex Outcome: Tranquil Illusions, a much more laid-back track, with plenty of atmospherics and room for the music.
Luminosity, the first single, shows maturity in its composition and fits together well as one of the more grandiose tracks on the EP. The songs on Click To Start will play live rooms well and should win new fans with its accessibility.
It’s clear SimpleXity have musical skills and this record confirms their song-writing skills are mature and global in their execution. SimpleXity’s influences are clear on the EP, but they haven’t overtly relied on them, meaning they’ve created an accessible and broad record that can appeal to a wide range of audiences.
The instruments are given space to ‘breathe’ in the mix that is rarely afforded to complex progressive rock releases and that’s what makes Click To Start so refreshing.

To keep it short , this is the first time I've passed on an Egyptian band's music to non Egyptians and didn't have to tell them " they're Egyptian BUT good " I just said " check this out " because this album is everything a rock album should be .
It's good , everywhere , and by any standard . This is a very good progressive rock album not " good for Egyptians " simply " Good " .
If any big Prog name put it's name on the album it'll probably be a big hit everywhere , we just don't have enough momentum in the middle east to push Progressive Rock outside but I think this album will flip the scales . This one will make it abroad I'm sure .
This album is too good to stay local , it will go somewhere and I'll be very happy to say " I'm on of the first to buy the EP ".
A good album by a very promising band , can't wait for more , but for now I'm going to Click Click Click Click
By all means, ''Click To Start'' is a positive step that I think will lead SimpleXity to fruition. The band is obiously heading from this point on to somewhere surprizing and awesome. And it also very obvious the progression of the bands sound and music along the way. From influences, from experementing. I mean if you look at ''A lone dying wolf'' one of their older songs And ''Limonosity'' the newest. Not that one is better than the other. But Luminosity is just flawless, this is a song that will remain on my ''Everyday'' hearing list. There is just no giving up, the musical direction is amazing. The first time I heard it I was like ''ok where is this going now'' And trying to suspect was not even a good idea.
I think, talking about each song in detail is not that important cause as I said, no question the songs written from now on will be more sharp and clear. So if I could say my favorite is, Luminosity. And my least favorite as a musicisian, I am sure people might like it, is Thin Air, and this is my personal Opnion. my dislike to thin air is because the 6/8 structure is too obvious. It is very semetrical and metronmic. It might be important for further compositions, but I just don't see the long intro progressive or impressive. I think it needs longer lines. The phrases are very short. But as I said, it's only an opnion.
SimpleXity is one of the bands that I watched from the very beinning! And from that experience. This is a band that will not let anybody down in the future. Due to the members dedication and the band's obvious character.
