Manchester Orchestra - Simple Math

Manchester Orchestra - the alternative rock band from Atlanta, Georgia - release their third album titled ‘Simple Math’. Read below for triplew.me’s review of the album...

Every once in a while you stumble upon a song that just clicks and stays with you, a song that combines beauty and a whirlwind of turbulence. The title track from Manchester Orchestra’s third album ‘Simple Math’ is that song.

What makes the song extraordinary is the perfect convergence of lyrics and music. The song’s lyrics pose questions such as ‘What if I’ve been trying to get to where I’ve always been?’ which are easy to relate to in the modern world, where the non-stop pace makes it difficult to reflect back on what is actually taking place. The effortless piano, guitar and violins wrap around those words to create the perfect ambience.

Other notable tracks include the opener ‘Deer’, ‘Pale Black Eye’ and ‘Virgin’. The latter track includes a backing choir.

However, the album does include some odd-moments. For example, ‘Might’, a track that starts off with a metal riff in total contrast to the flow of the record. While this might not gel well with the rest of the album – it does display the versatility of Manchester Orchestra.

‘Simple Math’ is an album full of tracks that will grow on you with time. Each time you spin it you will discover some new layers and some hidden sounds. Hopefully, with this release, the band will gain the appreciation that they truly deserve.
