Yas Island Show Weekend - Urban

Catch skating and much more at Yas Island

We’ve had a lot of  hip hop and ‘urban’ talent arriving on our Middle Eastern shores lately, this coming weekend in Abu Dhabi will be no exception.

To recap briefly, in July we had UK Grime kings Bashy, Kano and Eslam Jawaad play with Gorillaz in Damascus this month saw the homecoming (of sorts) of The Narcicyst; and now this weekend at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, we're in for some more treats.

Recently playing host to the likes of Linkin Park and Prince, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is quickly establishing itself as a venue for international, regional and local acts alike - and this weekend is no exception.

Not only is there international music talent on offer, but also a unique ‘urban’ themed weekend for all ages has been planned. This includes the FREE (you don't even need a ticket!) ‘Leave Your Mark on Yas’ graffiti workshops with the UK’s famous graffiti artist Inkie, Beatbox performances, b-boy performances and other related dance acts, plus a range of international hip hop acts. Closing off the event will also be an exclusive performance by The Narcicyst, Meryem Saci and Nantali Indongo, aka the Illuminarcy.

With what could be a first, there will also be a free dance party aimed at Under 18s called ‘Step Up’. The party will include street and urban DJs playing R&B and hip-hop anthems and dance crews.

The headline concert for the weekend is Canadian producer/singer/songwriter Nelly Furtado, supported (or potentially to be outshone by) UK’s hottest new talents Tinchy Stryder and Taio Cruz.

All events (other than Tinchy Stryder/Taio Cruz/Nelly Furtado gig) are free, but if you’re looking for a bargain, then make sure you make a booking at one of the hotels on Yas Island. From AED350 you’ll get a room plus a Golden Circle Ticket for the concert. Go to the Yas Island website for all the details.
