Steve Carell and Julianne Moore in a scene of

Steve Carell stars in this ensemble romantic comedy of intersecting stories which all address the complexities of love. Read below for triplew.me's review of the film.

Romantic comedies are not known for their sophistication – save for a few ofcourse (mostly non-hollywood types a la “Four Weddings and a Funeral”). No one really goes to a romantic comedy expecting much, and that’s probably the reason behind their consistent success in the box office (just ask Jennifer Aniston!).

What should the audience expect from “Crazy Stupid Love”? A movie which stars fine comedians such as Steve Carell and brilliant actors such as Julianne Moore should be somewhat impressive, right? The answer is, not much – but that isn’t such a bad thing.

The film, staying true to its title, envelops three stories in one big theme – love, it’s mysteries, consequences and imperfections. All three stories are related to each other in a way or the other (leading to an interesting turn of event towards the end of the film).

The film keeps a fine balance between the comedy and the romance without becoming too corny – thanks to a good script and some decent directing for the director duo Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

The three stories examine the sentiment of love on three different levels: Adolescence, youth and adulthood. Each story portrays the highs and lows of the relationships. A wife divorcing her husband, a kid trapped in his naïve interpretation of love and a couple overcoming their differences and growing together.

This mish mash of stories culminates at the end in a typical but unforeseeable Hollywood twists – but what keeps “Crazy Stupid Love” from being crazily stupid is the abundance of warmth and heart in these stories which we can all relate to.

Crazy Stupid Love” is not over the top hilarious nor is it over the top complex. It’s just a down to earth flick which tells stories of some pretty normal people (for the most part) – creating a nice two-dimensional balance to the three-dimensional movie crazy out there.
