Paul Watson founder of Sea Shepherd (Picture: ADFF).

Paul Watson is one of the original founders of the environmentalist movement Greenpeace. In Eco Pirate, director Trish Dolman, explores Watson’s journey as one of the most radical environmental activists in the world. Read below for triplew.me review of the film…

Paul Watson has always been a polarizing character. From his beginnings in Greenpeace with the likes of Bob Hunter and Patrick Moore, Watson has always been the ‘loose-cannon’ of the group. From staging chaotic scenes with wide media attention, enlisting celebrities to help gain momentum to certain campaigns to ramming into whaling ships in attempts to block their activities.

Watson was voted off of Greenpeace eventually for his antics which weren’t consistent with the group’s peaceful message. He then went on to start Sea Shepherd to counter attack worldwide Whaling organizations.

The film discovers the life and personality of Captain Paul Watson through a series of interviews and footage – providing an eye opening first-hand look at the horrifying ‘crimes’ against ocean creatures.

Eco Pirate’s appeal, at some parts, centralize upon the thrill and suspense values in following the Sea Shepherd crew in their annual voyages to stop Japanese whaling ships from continuing their yearly hunts.

This riveting and often graphic documentary tells the story of Paul Watson, one of the earliest members of Greenpeace and the founder of Sea Shepherd. Watson's radical antics in his life-long environmentalist career have made him a notorious figure in the world of activism. An eye-opening documentary from Canadian director Trish Dolman.
