Wrecked, the new feature film from Adrien Brody

Read triplew.me's movie review of Adrien Brody's Wrecked, recently seen at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

“Hello – my name is…. Blank”?

You wake with a face full of cuts, bloodied, bruised, dazed and confused.

You're trapped in a mangled car with a fractured leg and surrounded by dark forest. You have no idea where you are and how you got there.

And there is a dead guy decomposing on the back seat.

The opening 20 minutes of Wrecked may as well have been filmed in a washing machine - with its spin cycle set to deathly slow such is the film's claustrophobic use of the blurred closer than close “close-up” camera position; giving a fresh meaning to the term - “in your face”.

Apart from being severely dazed and confused and somewhat amnesic, Brodys character also suffers wild hallucinations in the form of a young woman and a dog that both seem to want to help him out of his predicament. However, the hungry mountain lion he encounters is a very real threat. Fortunately he has a pistol on him, but of course does not know why; “where did that come from?”

After a number of days trapped in the wrecked car, he manages to free himself and gingerly manoeuvre outside. With his leg supported by a crude splint, he crawls in various directions over several more days looking for food and any sign of civilization.

Does he remember his true identity and manage to survive?

Greenspans minimalist approach to film making is unique, (It was shot over only 18 days) and well worth the ticket and obligatory box of popcorn. Wrecked is a suspenseful tale that will most definitely keep you trapped to your seat.

Filmed in only 18 days and on a tight budget, this is a great film and was one of the stand-outs at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival recently. We're not sure of a wider release date, but is definitely one to see at the cinema.
