Although it passed these shores a while ago, triplew.me reviews RED, the new "has-beens showing the young 'uns how it's done" action film starring some of the greatest has-beens in cinema.

The title of the film, RED is actually an acronym for Retired and Extremely Dangerous and subsequently promotes the general gist of the film. Frank Moses, played by Bruce Willis, is a retired CIA black-ops wunderkind that falls in love with his pension liaison Sarah Ross played by Mary Louise Parker.
They are predictably thrust into a whirlwind of action-drama(as is expected in all Bruce Willis flicks); specifically ex-CIA drama that involves discovering who exactly is responsible for ordering hits on the mysterious Guatemala team of ’86, including himself. The storyline progressively rounds up “the gang” made up of Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman), Victoria Winslow (Helen Mirren) and Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich) all of whom prove that getting older doesn’t put you at a disadvantage.
This is quite a unique film for several reasons. One reason why almost anyone can love it is for its brilliant cast of Bruce Willis, the hero of course, Mary Louise Parker, his love-interest, John Malkovich, the trigger happy sidekick, Helen Mirren, assassinatrice extraordinaire and Morgan Freeman, the charmer. Secondly, a clear effort has been made to show that these actors are indeed “mature” but that they can be skilful, bad-ass and gorgeous.
Keep in mind that this movie is not about plot, or artistic filming or any discerning criteria per se; rather it’s that love of fun-action and the character interpretations by these actors.
