The latest comic book movie adaptation to come from Hollywood is quite the visual circus, in a good way. Read below for triplew.me’s review of Thor.
This mythical tale of gods and the ever imbalanced scale of good and evil gets personified in the tale of Thor: Norse God of Thunder – his personal growth from an extremely strong, hotheaded wild card to a down to earth, wise and grounded powerhouse is the centre of the film.
The film takes the audience in a journey between the realms or worlds. A mythical universe which comprises of nine realms where the story focuses on the long standing war between the kingdom of Asgard and the Frost Giants of Joutenheim.
The conflict happens when Thor defies his father’s (Odin, the king of Asgard) orders and belligerently engages in a hostile confrontation with the Frost Giants which doesn’t bode well for him and his status in Odin (Anthony Hopkins) (as an heir to the throne).
The story moves on with Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) subsequent banishment to Earth and that is where he learns his most valuable, and humbling lessons. On Earth he meets a group of scientists who take an interest in his case and help him reunite with the source of his power (his hammer, the Mjolnir). This twist leads to the eventual battle for redemption which Thor seeks so vehemently.
The film combines astounding special effects and CGI, surprising sense of humor and the childish charm of comic books. Director Kenneth Branagh manages to create an enchanting world but without compromising the humanity of the story.
