So, this year (or year-end) we're trying something a little bit different. We're handing the steering wheel to a group of Makshoof Music artists to tell us what made this year for them (musically). Read below to find out more!
From Cairo to Dubai, we look at the top ten 2011 (and sometimes 2010) records, which were the soundtrack to some of Makshoof Music artists along the last 12 months.
Our second 10 list of the year comes from Absolace front-man (progressive rockers Absolace are about to release the follow-up to their 2010 acclaimed debut album Resolve[d]) Nadim Jamal. Check below to find out which albums made Nadim's end of year list!
1. Opeth - Heritage |
![]() "The new Opeth album "Heritage" is a masterpiece - if you are not a fan of growling vocals now is a good time to give Opeth a listen." |
2. Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning |
![]() "Steven Wilson's new solo album "Grace For Drowning" - was on repeat in my car for a month at least." |
3. Chevelle - Hats Off the Bull |
![]() "Awesome album!" |
4. Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn of Events |
![]() "Another successful concoction from the progressive rock masters. Songs come in all epic shapes and forms." |
5. Periphery- Icarus |
![]() "Periphery's new release definitely packs a punch!" |
6. Textures - Dualism |
![]() "One of my favorite new bands - heavy enough when heavy, good quality melodic sections, awesome vocalist, awesome band." |
7. All The Rest! |
![]() Nadim's list might've stopped at 6, but he says "The rest has been going back a bit - been listening to loads of NIN, Massive Attack, Alice in Chains, etc. Also, I've been listening to alot of DJent and several other bands that have been emerging and growing in popularity (even ones that have been around for a few years now but only starting to gain popularity) like Animals as Leaders, Beacons, Chimp Spanner, Cloudkicker and more..." As to what was his favorite track of the year - Nadim says "Justin Bieber - Ride...expect this as a major influence for Absolace's next release..." All we can say is Uh-Oh! |
