triplew.me's Summer Playlist

Sleigh Bells - one our summer soundtrack bands

We bring you triplew.me's Summer Playlist - brim-full of electro and indie-pop to help pass those lazy summer days, or the ones stuck indoors waiting out a longer, hotter day.

It’s the season to catch big Hollywood stars battling it out on colorful blockbusters, go on a much needed holiday and casually complain about the weather (even when actually enjoying it because it's WAY better than the alternative). A time to enjoy the multiple trips to the beach that go along with it, if you're lucky enough to be somewhere that doesn't burn the soles of your feet off as soon as they touch the sand.

It’s also the season to camp out and party in a tent at so-and-so music festival in Europe or just unwind, relax and try to avoid the scorching sun as much as possible – but regardless of how you decide to spend your summer months, one fact remains true – every summer has an anthem, rightly or wrongly – and here at triplew.me, well, we decided to come up with our own playlist of our favorite summer tunes that you might not have heard, but probably should.

And let it be noted that we have been tempted to come up with a list of 'happy beach-y lazy songs that would make Frosty the Snowman feel the urge to go sunbathing. Seeing as there's so many of those catchy, chilled-out songs out there right now it didn't seem worth it to fill up a playlist of them, so we thought mixing up things on this one would make it fun to listen to all year round! Sweet electro-pop, indie rock and roll, subtle dance, rock and electro-pop, this one has them all.

Sleigh Bells – Tell ‘Em

This aggressive, in your face song from the breakthrough band of the year, is fresh, original and guaranteed to get everyone up and rowdy! Their mixture of understated vocals and brash, loud instruments is so well done.

Free Energy - Something in Common

Back to the future! Or to the 80’s at least – this track is a blatant attempt to fuse the harmonies of today’s indie-pop with the dramatics of the 80’s arena rock – and it blatantly works!

The Thermals – I Don’t Believe You

This song doesn’t stray from the signature Thermals sound – great hook, and statement lyrics create the perfect sing-a-long to stomp your feet to.

Beach Fossils – Youth

If anyone ever wants to get into the summer mood, this is the song to listen to – it was obviously made with a certain yearning for some youthful fun at the beach.

Faded Paper Figures – Invent It All Again

An indie-pop against an electronic background is both lovely and layered making for a great driving tune.

South Carolina – Tennis

One of my favorite tracks on this list – it has a familiar and endearing quality about its retro sound. It’s like a lovely day spent basking in the sun, back in 1959.

Math and Physics Club - Will You Still Love Me

First of all, what an awesome name for a band! This ode to a romance falling apart, couldn’t be any sweeter and it proves not all summer songs have to happy themes – but can still make us feel bright and lively!

We Are Scientists – Jack & Ginger

Off of their new record, Barbara, this tune is best fitted for summer nights – with enough intensity which is balanced out with perfect pop-y hook, makes for a great song to dance along to outdoors when the weather gets cooler.

The Boy Least Likely To – Happy to be Myself

Another song that is very 80’s influenced – but with the usual indie pop/twee elements, this is an absolute delightful summer anthem.

Best Coast - Crazy for You

Regardless of being new hipster darlings, Best Coast has actually delivered a really good debut album – filled with songs inspired by the beach and LA, this song is just a taste from a complete summer collection!

Steel Train - Soldier in the Army

A track with the great potential of being a big loud summer anthem, of the indie rock variety – as opposed to the sweet melodies of twee and pop – Steel Train’s excellent self titled album offers so many opportunities to rock out and this here is definitely one of them.

Magic Kids – Summer

The quintessential song of Summer ’10 – intricate and beautifully layered with childish melancholy and an innocent dramatic nature, it almost feels like a entire film was translated into a single song.

Born Ruffians – Nova Leigh

A standout track from the group’s latest offering – with an awesome drum sequence, this song is energetic, and slightly all over the place – but it makes perfect sense on the dance floor.

Jai Paul – BTSTU

A brilliant, creative scorching track – half prince, half robot and a whole lot of cool – cannot wait to hear more!
