Upcoming Music Releases: 10 to Look Forward To

The Decemberists - one new release we're looking forward to

It has been a good year for music – and this will be showcased come December when end of the year lists starts popping up around the web (look out for triplew.me’s contribution next month!).

But good music is always in demand and we are always ecstatic to come across new awesome tunes – so we’ve compiled a list of the releases we’re most looking forward to from the remainder of this year and next year. What about you? Which albums are you looking forward to? Read on!

Daft Punk – Tron Legacy Soundtrack

The French electronic duo have been enlisted to write the soundtrack for the highly anticipated sequel to Tron – and we couldn’t be more excited – from snippets heard on the trailer, we can tell this is going to be a great treat for all Daft Punk fans.

The Decemberists – The King is Dead

Indie rock royalty Colin Meloy and his band are back to with a follow up to the 2009 release “The Hazards of Love” – According to Meloy, their sound has been heavily influenced by REM for this record, which might mean a less conceptual album and a more to-the-point approach, which we won’t mind seeing from The Decemberists.

The Go! Team – Rolling Blackouts

The Brighton indie-rock-garage-funk-noise-pop band is releasing their third record early next year – it features a couple of collaborations such as vocals by Bethany Cosentino (Best Coast) and Satomi Matsuzaki (Deerhoof) and is tipped to be another great release from the sextet.

Beastie Boys – Hot Sauce Committee, Vol. 2

The second volume which will be out before the first one – yes, that’s right – apparently, all the songs which were originally planned for volume one, would be swiftly released under volume two – and volume one would be released at a later date. It’s confusing, but who cares! A new Beastie Boys record is coming out in any case!

Iron & Wine – Kiss Each Other Clean

The fourth album from the folk rock outfit Iron & Wine (singer-songwriter Samuel Beam) comes out on his new label home (Warner Bros.) and is said to have a 70’s retro-pop sound – which will be interesting to hear from the low-key performer.

R.E.M – Collapse Into Now

Their 15th (!) recording will feature collaborations with Eddie Vedder, Peaches and Patti Smith. Acoording to the band, the release will include a variation of songs not bound by any specific sound or tempo – and the subject matter of most will be personal rather than political.

Dr. Dre – Detox

According to Dre’s website – it’s the most anticipated hip hop album ever  - we don’t know how true that statement is, but Detox was supposed to be released in 2004 and is going to be Dr. Dre’s final album (until he changes his mind) – so hopefully it lives up to the hype.

James Blake – James Blake

One of 2010’s breakout music “stars” or let’s say a London-based electronic music producer who has been making some wonderful tracks (namely his cover of Feist’s “Limit to Your Love”) – we can’t wait to see what he does on his debut album.

Cut Copy – Zonoscope

The Melbourne synth-pop band is returning with their 3rd studio album, and presumably their most focused and accessible release to date. And judging by the sound of the first single “Take Me Over” – the atmosphere seems to sound like a fusion tribal synth electronic 80’s pop of the sorts.

Mogwai  – Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will

Not a whole lot of information is available about the 7th studio album from Mogwai (aside from the track-listing and cover art) – but they’ve released a song off it titled “Rano Pano”  and it’s enough to get us amped about the album!

Also, we are looking forward to upcoming releases from the following artists and bands: Foo Fighters , Aphex Twin, Lykke Li, PJ Harvey, The Strokes, Fiona Apple and Fleet Foxes.
