2010 in Review - triplew.me 'Awards'

Pixies - Nantes, France - triplew.me Gig of the Year

2010 has been a busy (musical) year for us here at triplew.me - aside from the website launching into cyberspace, we launched Makshoof Music and tried our best to keep up with all the international releases to keep you up to date.

And during the last week we have been receiving your votes and feedback over which releases and acts you thought defined the year - so let's take a look at what you've picked. Don't agree? Tell us - register/login and leave comment.

Middle East Release:

Pie Are Squared - This Life Changing Decision

One of the most different, exciting and interesting regional releases we've heard all year. Check out our review here and follow the link to take a listen.

Middle East Rock Act:

Belm2loob

This young band has a unique sound which infuses hard rock with elements of oriental music in a context which is very accessible - and that according to you, makes a winner!

Check out their Makshoof entry here.

Middle East Metal Act:

The Crow Murder

These guys are dedicated to their craft - producing some of the finest sounding metal music in the region, they will be going places.

Check out their Makshoof entry here.

Middle East Electronica/Hip Hop Act:

Neobyrd

Electronica producer, Neobyrd, was one of this year's pleasant surprises - we have immensely enjoyed his work from his Naughty Boyz EP to the other releases/collaborations he's released. Apparently you agreed with us!

Check out his Makshoof entry here.

Middle East Alternative Act:

Noush Like Sploosh

This quirky songstress (songwriter!) is a breath of fresh air with her infectious tunes and dreamy tales. We can't wait to hear more from her!

Check out her Makshoof entry here.

Best Middle East Concert:

Gorillaz in Damascus

This one of a kind event held in the Citadel in Syria was a spectacle of the good kind - read our in depth report here.

Best International Album:

The National - High Violet

Read our review to find out why this album topped our list for 2010!

Best International Video:

Arcade Fire - We Used To Wait

We couldn't pick a better "video" this year! Aptly combining the latest web technologies in a very sentimental way - the band delivered what is the cherry on the top of a very eventful/successful year! Create your own experience here.

Top International Festival:

Bestival, Isle of Wight, UK

Will Nixon attended the colorful festival and brought us back a lengthy, detailed (with pictures!) report (part 1 & part 2). Also-rans: Splendor in the Grass & Reading.

Top International Concert:

Pixies, France, Nantes

The indie-rock legends played a sold-out gig to an adoring audience in France on this Doolittle 20th anniversary tour - Will Nixon was there and here is the full review.
