The Decemberists on Top of the World

The Decemberists Score Their First No. 1 Album

With their newly released album “The King Is Dead” [click here for our review] – the Portland based indie rockers are taking over the airwaves in an unprecedented turn of events for them by topping the US Billboard charts in the first week of the LP's release.

The band is also making waves across the world by climbing up the charts and generating high sales.

The King Is Dead” which is the band’s 6th album signifies a shift in sound to a more accessible and down to earth style, enriched with country and Americana influences – which, however, doesn’t detract from the quality of the songs. The album is fantastic and already receiving a lot of rave reviews – which coupled with the commercial success it’s experiencing, could very well catapult the band into well-deserved stardom.

Released on EMI’s Capitol records in the US – the album has sold more than 90,000 units in its debut week. The album is released on Rough Trade records in the UK & Europe.

The band will embark on a US/UK tour starting at the end of this month – which already has many of its dates sold out.
