Eric Hutchinson Q&A

Eric Hutchinson live in Dubai

Ahead of his first gig in Dubai, on Friday night (25th of February) – as a part of the Livin’ The Music Festival – American singer/songwriter Eric Hutchinson answers some questions for TripleW.me. Read below for a glimpse of what to expect this weekend plus more!

Q: What should people expect from your show? If someone is unfamiliar with your music, how would you describe it to them?

We put on a high energy, fun show. It's all about singing along and dancing and getting the crowd involved. I love leading a crowd thing a big singalong and it doesn't matter if they've ever heard my songs or not. I always try to win them over and bring them into my music.

Q: Who have you been influenced by? What drove you to make music?

Growing up, I loved The Beatles, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. I love writing and singing songs and getting to play them for an audience is the final step.

Q: You have encountered amazing success with your self-released “Sounds Like This” record. Can you share with us the story of that album?

I had been dropped by my label and thought about giving up on music. I decided to give it one more push and make "Sounds Like This". I was lucky enough to have it catch on and my life has been an amazing whirlwind since!

Q: You find a great balance in your songs between vulnerable sincerity and joyous hooks. Do you write for the melody or do you compose for the words?

Melody is king for me in music. Whether it's classical, jazz, rap, pop, the melody is what draws me in. So it's the same when I'm writing a song. The melody draws me in and often informs me of what I'm trying to say. I also believe in pop music you can get people to listen to some heavier thoughts than they realize if you make it upbeat and catchy!

Q: Here on TripleW.me, one of our main goals is encourage and support up-and-coming musical talent in the region. What advice would you have for anyone out there trying to make a career out of their love for music?

Get as good as you can possibly be, learn to write your own songs and BE PERSISTENT!!

Q: You are releasing a new album soon – will you be playing new songs in your Dubai show? What do you have in store for your fans with the new release?

Yes! I'm so excited for my new album. It's called "Moving Up, Living Down" and I'll definitely be playing new songs at my Dubai show. The album is all about beats and melodies. It's soulful pop that makes you feel good!

Q: On an ending note, can you share with us your top five most played songs as of recently?

"White Sky" by Vampire Weekend

"Dream in Blue" by Los Lobos

"Power" by Kanye West

"Howlin' for You" by The Black Keys

"Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Aretha Franklin
