This week triplew.me looks at some new material from Jane’s Addiction, a new track by Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac) with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and the additions to our audio stream.
We’ve some new material this week from some classic artists in very different genres. We take a look at that and the new tunes you can check out on our audio stream ahead of the new shows we have planned.

Jane’s Addiction, the seminal alt-rock band from California, have re-formed (for the fourth time in their 25-year career) to record their fourth (only four!) studio album, and first for 8 years, to be released later this year, called ‘The Great Escape Artist’ via Capitol Records.
On the new album the band has worked with famed producer Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand and more) and TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek.
There’s even a regional connection on the album comes courtesy of The Master Musicians of Joujouka from the village of Jajouka in the Ahl Srif mountain range of the sourthern Rif Mountains in Northern Morocco. The musicians are Sufi trance musicians who use reed, pipe and percussion to create drones and complex rhythmical structures that are unique to the Joujouka.
Vocalist Perry Farrell mentioned that the band would add a new dynamic to the sound and stray away from their ‘rock’ based roots “We wanted to add a sense of ritual and some depth beyond normal instrumentation, getting off the typical path that rock bands use,” adding “and we wanted the music to cast a spell on the ‘lies’.”
With the music recorded in the village of Joujouka in Morocco, the band was able to record a lot of the music from the Joujouka musicians that can be used in different contexts on the album. Costey explains “It was all recorded in the Master Musicians Madrassa which is out in the village of Joujouka where they live,” adding “the drums were recorded in the kitchen and the rhiatas in the main room of the house.”
The band has made available a track that the Joujouka provide rhythm and trance layering called ‘Into The Lies’ for free download from the Jane’s Addiction website. The track is not the first single from the album, but gives a taste of things to come.
Stevie Nicks, one of the most iconic female vocalists of our time from the seminal band Fleetwood Mac, has returned with a new collaboration with none other than Dave Stewart, the man who with Annie Lennox, was the force behind the Eurythmics.
With the new album containing contributions from members of The Heartbreakers and Mick Fleetwood, you can probably imagine the laid-back Americana sounds that will come forward from the album, In Your Dreams, due to be released on May 23, 2011.
The first track, Cheaper Than Free, has been released as a video. The track shows the subtlety of both artists; with the song showing, beside diminished vocals, delicate interpretations and an almost alt-country feel (or stadium balled...we can’t decide). While probably not an instant classic, the song is a touching insight to a classic artist.
Stevie Nicks - Cheaper Than Free
We’re working hard to build a diverse, alternative playlist for our audio stream ahead of its full launch, complete with shows and mobile applications, in the next month.
Listen out for this week:
